Deep FX Laser Treatment
Laser Fractional Resurfacing
Triplets treated for burn scars with Lumenis UltraPulse CO2 fractional laser featured on The Today Show and in June ‘09 edition of Glamour magazine.
The goal of laser skin resurfacing is simple: To replace damaged skin with new, fresh skin. Techniques for skin resurfacing have made enormous scientific advances in the last year, allowing nearly everyone to achieve close to flawless complexions. The Lumenis Active FX System allows for light, or moderate, or deep laser resurfacing. But, in addition to reforming the surface layers of the skin, the Active FX system also allows for deep penetration remodeling, making this treatment the most essential and effective for skin tightening, wrinkle removal and collagen stimulation.
The primary targets of laser skin resurfacing include:
- Fine lines and wrinkles of the face.
- Loose eyelid skin.
- Crows feet around the eyes.
- Pucker marks (“Smokers’ lines”....even if you never smoked) and frown lines.
- Brown spots and splotchy, uneven skin tone.
- Scars….especially fabulous results with acne scars.
- Loose skin around the neck and jowls.
In fact, patients may elect to have this treatment, not only on the face, but chest, arms, hands, or any other body part.
The “Gold Standard” of laser resurfacing systems, the Lumenis “Active FX” CO2 Laser delivers thousands of tiny laser pulses in a pattern over the skin. Each pulse heats a column of tissue eliminating pigment discolorations at the surface and creating a zone of heating deep in the tissue. Unique to the Lumenis Encore Active FX, these zones of heating shrink collagen and tighten the skin immediately, This laser also offers the benefits of heating deeper layers of skin tissue, thereby stimulating collagen remodeling, which over time, tightens the skin further. Patients have reported experiencing continuing benefit from this procedure for up to 12 months afterwards.
Patient may select from a range of potential treatments depending on the needs of the skin and their lifestyle. The “Active FX” setting is more superficial and used for pigmentation and very fine wrinkles or texture problems. The “Deep FX” treatment works deeper in the tissue for scars and deeper lines. “Total FX” is a combination of both these treatments.
It also stimulates formation of new underlying collagen to continue improvement over time. With fractional laser treatments, only a fraction of the skin’s surface is treated by the laser, leaving small “bridges” of untouched healthy skin.
This technique makes the healing process much faster and enables you to get back to normal activities sooner.
Our physicians perform the procedure in our medical center with a topical anesthetic cream, as well as injected numbing medication. There is moderate to little pain associated with this procedure. Most patients say that if is similar to sunburn. With a gentle washing and moisturizing regimen, your photo treated skin will begin to flake and reform within 3 to 4 days. After 5 days most patients are able to wear makeup. After 7 days the redness in the skin begins to subside, and continues to lighten for the next several weeks.
Our procedure involves placing patients on a mild, prophylactic antibiotic starting the day of treatment. You will also be given mild pain medications, as well as some “anti itching” and swelling agents. Most patients enjoy 2 to 4 days at home, lubricating their skin and resting comfortably.
We do recommend that you have a driver for this procedure…in fact; we will provide a professional driver in a sedan to insure that you arrive safely home. This concierge service is included with your Active FX treatment package.
